Conflict management
Conflict management.
One of the most debilitating issues faced by both workers and managers is conflict in the workplace. By the nature of human interaction individuals are destined not always to get along with one another. On most occasions this is acceptable but sometimes matters get out of hand and morale is sapped and productivity affected. In such situations conflict becomes damaging and must be adequately managed.
This half or one day participative workshop is designed to enable those who in the course of their work may be involved in managing situations of conflict.
By the end of the workshop participants will have:
- Examined at an introductory level the nature of organisations, how they work and the barriers and blocks to their effectiveness.
- Explored issues of power and bullying, conflict and control, both at an individual and collective level.
- Reflected on the nature of conflict management and resolution as it specifically relates to social care settings, especially within learning disability services.
- Explored the nature of disputes, concepts of resolution, mediation and negotiation, and in particular the interactionist management approach to conflict.
- Reflected on their own strengths and weaknesses in relation to conflict de-escalation, negotiation and management/resolution.
- Considered and modelled some practical techniques and advice on how to improve potential and real conflict situations, e.g. through developed skills in listening, group dynamics, consolidation, negotiation and mediation.
- Identified the role of policy and procedure in conflict management, and explored possible areas for future personal learning development in relation to conflict management skills.
