Disability

Disability discrimination

There are over 7m disabled people of working age in the United Kingdom. Add to this figure older people and those with short-term impairments through injury or illness then this figure is nearer 10 million. Put another way, one in four of us have a disability or is close to someone with a disability.

The term “Disability” covers a very wide range of conditions and impairments including asthma, tuberculosis, AIDS, cancer, angina, diabetes, anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, dyslexia, vision impairment, hearing impairment, and paralysis.

People are often concerned about meeting, working alongside and supporting people with disabilities. They are afraid of doing or saying the wrong thing.

Disability Equality Training provides an opportunity to explore these fears and concerns and find out more about disability and realise that providing a service to disabled people is essentially common sense, courtesy and good customer care.

Contact us for an immediate discussion about the many ways Equal and Diverse can help your organisation, whatever your size, meet its responsibilities.

For example we can carry out research around access, employment policy reviews, as well as undertake be-spoke training.

Training might include, amongst other issues:

• How to improve access and staff confidence about meeting disabled customers

• Who is classified as ‘disabled’ under the Equality Act

• Misconceptions and myths about disability

• Employers obligations under the Equality Act

• Service Providers obligations under the Equality Act

• Guide to ‘reasonable adjustments’

• Effective communication skills
