Safeguarding children

Basic child protection training

Equal and Diverse has considerable experience of delivering child protection training to a range of statutory, voluntary sector and private businesses. Our courses utilise the skills of experienced professionals who use a range of methods to help to participants reflect on their attitudes, build up skills and embed good practice. We use presentations, small group discussions, real case scenarios and DVD materials. They are open to anyone who works with or is involved with children in a voluntary or professional capacity.

Our basic course will help participants get a better understanding of what safeguarding is about and the processes involved in child protection and what all this means for the individual and the organisation. We take account of the different legislative background across the United Kingdom and use the standard national models of good practice.

By the end of the course you should be able to:

  • Identify what is meant by safeguarding, child abuse and  child harm.
  •  Understand the different ways in which a child can be harmed and abused.
  •  Identify some of the increased risk factors that make children vulnerable.
  •  Identify the main signs and indicators that abuse has happened.
  •  What to do if you have concerns.
  •  Understand what to do if a child comes and tells you they are being or have been abused.
  •  Put into practice with greater confidence the policies and procedures of your organisation.
  •  Understand more clearly the relevant legislation and guidance for your own country or local area.

We also offer a range of more advanced course including supporting staff in more depth around disclosure. Please contact us if you are interested in more advanced training.
