Personalisation, self-directed suppport and planning
It’s about putting the person first.
Personalisation or self-directed support are the names given to the programme which seeks to ensure that individuals who are in receipt of social care, e.g., a person with a disability, an older person, someone living with drug and alcohol misuse (with the help of family, advocates, care staff and social work staff) directs how they would like to be supported and how hey would like to live their lives. The aim is to improve choice, control and independence for the individual.
Equal and Diverse has been training social care and support staff in personalisation and support planning for over ten years. In this time e have built up considerable experience not just in communicating the philosophy and ‘ideas’ behind this new approach but also in addressing the practicalities and challenges it brings.
We offer typically a one or two day programme which enables staff to explore many of the developed and new support planning models and techniques as well as addressing some of the challenges that support planning brings, such as the importance of ensuring individual rights and personal autonomy are balanced with the challenges of safeguarding and protection.
Recognising that practices vary across the United Kingdom we are responsive to need and local context and develop programmes suitable for the area in which the support planning will be occurring.
Feel free to get in touch with us to talk through your needs whether you are looking at training social care staff or want us to independently facilitate local community involvement.
