Introductory Equality Course
An introduction to the issues
Equal and Diverse offers courses in each of the nine protected equality areas which are covered by the Equality Act 2010 but recognising that most businesses and organisations are faced with challenges in these economic times our most popular courses are our bespoke half day or full day courses in general equalities and diversity.
These introductory workshops are designed for individuals who wish to explore issues of equality and discrimination and how they affect the way they work, how they relate to others and the dynamics within their organisation.
During the workshop the equality characteristics of age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion and belief, sex and sexual orientation will be considered.
The courses help participants to:
- Gain an understanding of the concepts of discrimination, equality, diversity and equal opportunities.
- Examine the issues of stereotype and scape-goating within contemporary culture.
- Explore the dynamics of power and control in relation to discrimination.
- Examine the importance, application and relevance of the Equality Act 2010 for their own organisation and role.
- Explore personal attitudes, values, beliefs and prejudices – and their origin.
- Identify good practice in equality and diversity.
- Understand the role of equality impact assessments.
- Develop appropriate action planning tools to advance equity and non-discriminatory practice within their organisation.
